ABOUT

CATS Executive Council (EC)

The CATS Executive Council (EC) is a 7-member committee established to serve the CATS community. The Council is to be elected by the CATS membership and each member serves a staggered two-year term. Six of the positions are filled by the top vote-getters in an annual election. The seventh position is filled by the appointed CATS Conference Planning Team chair.

The Council meets monthly via conference calls, videoconferences, or online meetings, and holds two face-to-face meetings, one at the annual CATS Conference in the spring and another in the fall.

Executive Council Mission Statement

The Executive Council organizes and provides guidance on the collective efforts of the CATS membership by identifying, defining, and prioritizing initiatives that will benefit the CATS Community, as well as the students, faculty and staff of the universities we serve. Key focus areas include communicating, collaborating, and assessing CATS initiatives and academic technology products and programs; establishing and maintaining working relationships with academic technology vendors, relevant technology and planning organizations (MERLOT, New Media Consortium, ITAC, DAT, etc.) on behalf of the CATS community; and program and professional development for CATS members.

How the Executive Council is Selected

The members of the Council are chosen through a nomination and election process to ensure that the Council is representative of the community-at-large. All CSU CATS members are invited to run for a seat on the Council by self-nomination. However, there are a few requirements for potential Council members:

  • Nominees must have worked for a CSU for at least two years
  • Nominees must have attended at least one CATS conference
Nominees must have the written approval of their immediate supervisor and appropriate administrator in order to serve on the EC.
Other CATS contributions are desired, such as:
  • Worked on a CATS Conference planning team
  • Presented at conferences or regional meetings or online workshops
  • TIGERS recipient
  • Active on CATS listserv(s)
Only one person from a campus may serve on the EC at a time, unless the Conference Chair is from the same campus as a member; the CATS Conference Chair sits on the EC during the year of his/her conference responsibilities.
