LMS (Learning Management Systems)

The purpose of this article is to introduce the concept of Learning Management Systems. Learning Management Systems typically are comprised of sets of tools and data repositories for creating and managing learning objects and content as well as assessing and tracking student progress within courses. Blackboard and WebCT are examples of popularly used commercial systems, though open source products such as Moodle and Sakai have gained momentum in their adoption by institutions of higher education.
