Catheryn Cheal, Associate Vice President of Academic Technology at San Jose State University, will speak about "The Future of Academic Technology: Acquisition and Re-organization."
Academic Technology organizations often developed out of very physical Audio-Visual units, which traditionally acquired and loaned out equipment and media for classrooms. Technology for teaching, however, has evolved from an emphasis on physical hardware to cloud-based software; i. e., from film projectors to learning management systems. Yet many structural aspects of AT units remain from the 1980s and earlier. This keynote will explore the history and relationship between the structure of AT and its services, how future demands of the university will necessitate organizational changes in AT, and what types of acquisitions will become crucial to the teaching, learning, and research missions of higher education.
Registration is closed.
The meeting will be held in the Library (Building 35).
