Wednesday, May 6 Keynote

Mike Mahoney on CSUEB's New Online Campus

Mike Mahoney Mike Mahoney, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost at CSU East Bay, shares his university's innovative and integrated “Online Campus” organization, which supports online degree programs and services, such as enrollment, orientation, advising, library, tutoring, and career services. More than 100 fully online courses are offered each term, and by Fall 2009, the campus will offer 10 fully online degree completion and master’s degrees. CSUEB is currently working with the California Community College system to identify and promote lower division online course pathways into its online degree completion bachelor’s programs, and planning is underway to offer online remedial mathematics across the CSU beginning this June.

Thursday, May 7 Keynote

Brett Christie Brett Christie, Faculty Development Director at Sonoma State University, participated in the 2009 NMC Horizon Report editorial board. This keynote will feature the latest research on advances in technology related to teaching, learning, scholarship, and creative expression.  Related trends and challenges will be covered, followed by a look at technologies on the horizon, with specific uses cases shared.  During the discussion following Brett's presentation, attendees will be encouraged to share current uses they would consider good models, as well as far-horizon technologies and how they might help to advance the teaching and learning process.

Friday, May 8 Keynote

Gerry Hanley Kathy Fernandes Gerry Hanley, Senior Director, Academic Technology Services
Information Technology Services and Academic Affairs, CSU Office of the Chancellor, and Kathy Fernandes, Director of CSU LMS System-wide Initiatives, will speak about the current status of CSU's Learning Management Systems (LMS) activities. The system-wide Learning Management Systems (LMS) RFP is complete. So what's happening now? This session will provide an update on contract status, activity information about the CSU LMS sandboxes - "LMS Collabs," a summary of CSU campus status (who's staying with their current LMS, who's shopping, and who's moving). In addition, the LMS Futures group, made up of CSU CIOs, Provosts, and Faculty Academic Senate leaders, have been meeting online since January to discuss CSU's strategic direction for Learning Management Systems. Come hear more about the CSU LMS Roadmap for moving forward.
